Sheffield shop to close for the day in memory of ‘gentle giant’ and beloved dad Tom Dudley

A Sheffield shop is closing for the day so staff can celebrate the life of a ‘gentle giant’ who died suddenly.

Tom Dudley, a 31-year-old father-of-two, from Woodseats, died unexpectedly on May 14 and his funeral is due to take place at Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium on Thursday, June 3, at 12.30pm.

The hugely popular Sheffield United fan had worked all his adult life at Pyramid Carpets in Woodseats, and the shop has announced it is closing temporarily to enable his colleagues to pay their respects.

It said: “Pyramid Carpets are deeply saddened by the passing of long-term loyal employee Tom Dudley.

“Tom suddenly lost his life recently and his funeral will take place this coming Thursday, 3rd June.

“As a result, Pyramid Carpets will be closed from 11.00am on Thursday 3rd June and will reopen again at 08.30am on Friday 4th June, to allow colleagues to grieve and to celebrate Tom's life.

“Tom worked for Pyramid Carpets for 15 years and was an incredible asset to the company, with many personal clients. He was a gentle giant, with an ever friendly face and an infectious passion for life.

“Tom will be sadly missed by all at Pyramid Carpets and by family and friends alike.”

Numbers inside the crematorium are limited but people have been invited to contact Tom’s family if they wish to view a live stream of the service, and a celebration of his life is planned for a later date.

Tom’s family have asked for any donations in his memory to be made to the neonatal ward at the Jessop Wing.
