Bethany Devey, aged 10, has beautiful hair which reaches all the way down her back and as far as her thighs.

In a brave move for the Shiregreen youngster, she is to donate 2ft of it to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs free of charge to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer and other conditions.

An online fundraising page has been set up for those keen to support Bethany.

The youngster is hoping to have her hair cut next month.

Her mum, Julie Fabian, said: “My daughter has decided to cut her long hair, it's almost 3ft long and she'll be donating 2ft or maybe more of it to the Little Princess Trust while also raising as much money as she can for Sheffield Children’s Hospital charity.

“She is having it cut to her shoulders, she's so brave. She’s really excited and nervous at the same time. She has always wanted to do this and has been growing her hair for about five years because she wanted to donate it, it’s just something she's always wanted to do.”

Her mum added: “She broke her leg a few years ago and while waiting to be seen in the Children’s Hospital, she saw a lot of children who weren't very well and some that had lost their hair. She asked me why and I told her that some kids get ill and the hospital make them better and she said that when she's older and her hair is really long she's going help the hospital make the children better and share her hair with them. Then a friend in her class, their cousin died of cancer, which made her want to do it even more.”
