The Royal British Legion has asked people to visit as many memorials as they can across South Yorkshire to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal – either by walking, running, skipping or a bicycle ride.

And Cameron Bolt, aged 12, is one of those who has already taken up the challenge.

The Bradfield School pupil ran to Stannington War Memorial on Friday, followed by a walk to memorial Stoneface, near Loxley on Saturday.

Unfortunately bad weather put a stop to the final part of his challenge on Sunday, a bike ride to Bradfield. He will be completing this next weekend instead,

The Sheffield Sea Cadet said: “Discover history and heroism in your local area as you take on a personal challenge to remember those who have served in the past, whilst supporting those who need help today.”

Cameron, who is considering a career in the Armed Forces when he is older, is no stranger to fundraising. Earlier in the year on VJ day he completed a 75 minute bugle blow, raising £300 pounds for the RBL.

He also won a National Sea Cadets song contest for a song he wrote and performed about Remembrance.

His father Lindon said: “We’ve certainly been keeping him busy. During lock down he’s been kept motivated and inspired, and Sea Cadets is such a great thing for that

“He certainly enjoys being part of the sea cadets, it’s great for his confidence, he makes new friends gains new experiences.

“He abseiled the bridge at Monsal Head when he was 10-years-old, something he’d have never done normally.”

To recognise his fundraising efforts, Cameron was chosen to be a Standard Bearer in the Remembrance Sunday service in Sheffield city centre.
