Sheffield restaurant's amusing put down for food blogger unable to recognise seafood

Bosses at a popular Italian restaurant have put a food blogger in their place – after the writer failed to recognise seafood and desserts on their menu.

Staff at Grazie in Leopold Street were shocked when they were given a less than glowing review on social media by a food blogger.

But they found the writer had failed to distinguish between oysters and clams, prawns and shrimps and walnuts and almonds.

Launching an amusing attack on the blog, a post on Facebook said: “To all wannable food bloggers and foodies.

"We appreciate and even encourage an honest feedback and constructive criticism.

“But if you think you’re in a position to judge and give us a rating make sure you know what you’re talking about and especially what you’ve eaten, otherwise you just make a fool of yourself.”

The review, by a blogger called halal_foodfinds said: “Although the food was pretty good, overall, we wouldn’t advise travelling to Sheffield to try this food.

It added: “The seafood looked promising but given that Sheffield isn’t near any water, you can tell it doesn’t taste too fresh.”

The resaturant replied: “Although we do appreciate honest feedback, when someone doesn’t really know what they are talking about it gets rather amusing.

"You don’t need to live near the sea to get fresh produce. It’s 2020. You can get lobster caught and delivered within an hour."

The blog added: “Oysters didn’t taste the best and unfortunately it was clear they weren’t very fresh.”

The restaurant drily replied: “Now when you say oysters, I believe you mean clams and mussels as we don’t do oysters. If you confuse oysters with clams we don’t even need to say anything here.”

The restaurant also hit back at the blog’s grumbles about ‘breaded shrimp,’ pointing out that the dish was actually king prawns fried in tempura batter while a dessert was actually a chocolate and almond cake, rather than chocolate and walnut, as stated in the blog.

The restaurant added: “We believe you’re not familiar with Italian cuisine. We can’t take a review seriously from someone who can’t distinguish a clam from an oyster.”
