Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, based in North Anston, is one of the largest animal rescue centres in South Yorkshire, and is currently caring for a dozen dogs that are ready to be adopted.
There are big dogs, small dogs, dogs that love food, and dogs that love to run. Some of them will enjoy canine companion after an introduction, and some of them would like to be the only pet in the home so they can have all the attention they deserve after a rocky start to life.
If you fall in love with one of the dogs below and their unique personality, you should fill out an Animal Enquiry form on Thornberry’s website. This will help the staff ensure you and your lifestyle are a good match for the dog. If the shelter gets multiple requests for one animal, they will consider all applicants and choose the most suitable home to match it to a new owner.
But if you want to support Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, but are not currently able to provide of one of these dogs a forever home, you can donate money to the charity to help pay for their needs while they are being cared for by the shelter.

. Hey, Sebastian!
Four-year-old Sebastian, a Yorkshire terrier, is a little shy initially but a very sweet affectionate boy. Sadly his previous owners felt they could no longer look after him due to him being protective of his toys. A home understanding of rescue dogs is ideal for this little chap. He is best suited to live with older teens 16+ who can be understanding of his history and offer a quiet, stable household. Photo: Thornberry Animal Sanctuary
. Meet Spot
Spot is one of the newest arrivals at Thornberry. He has lived with other greyhounds and he is missing his friends. He has not raced before, but he has been in a kennel environment growing up. He is young at just under two-years-old, and deserves a life in a home with loving owners away from a track. He is very gentle and could live with other sighthounds and teenage children. Spot loves his food, so training will be great fun. Photo: Thornberry Animal Sanctuary
. Hi there, Diamond!
Diamond is 11-months-old, and a big bouncy friendly girl, who has sadly been passed from place to place for her whole young life. She longs for new owners that are completely committed so such a loving girl. She loves a cuddle and a brush. She arrived at the shelter in poor condition, but is now thriving with some good meals and lots of love. Diamond is best suited to live with children aged 12+ and is very social, but must be the only dog initially. Photo: Thornberry Animal Sanctuary
