New research has revealed that lovers in some cities are far more likely to orgasm during sex than others, with Newcastle crowned the climax capital of the UK.

But the results found that Sheffield is one of the worst cities in the UK when it comes to reaching a peak.

The study, conducted by bed and mattress specialists Bed SOS, found that while Brits have sex 3.1 times a week on average and typically orgasm once per session (also 3.1 times a week), some cities boast far more impressive ratios.

Despite having sex the least often, Geordies are the most likely to finish during sex.

They do the deed twice a week on average - the lowest average in the UK - but typically have 2.8 orgasms during sex. With 1.26 climaxes per session, they are the most effective lovemakers in the country.

The five UK cities that are most likely to orgasm during sex are: Newcastle, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool and Southampton.

In contrast, while people in Edinburgh are getting plenty of action, they are the least likely to climax in bed during sex.

On average, they make love 3.8 times a week (second only to Bristol’s 3.9) but only have 3 orgasms, which is the lowest orgasm-to-sex session ratio in the UK (84%). Cardiff comes a close second, only climaxing 85% of the time. Sheffield was next after Norwich with Manchester rounding off the top five.

The good news for these cities is that orgasms aren’t essential for sexual satisfaction.

Despite having the fewest orgasms per week (2.3), Sheffield residents are the most content with their sex lives, with 52% saying they are sexually satisfied.

The study also confirmed that women are far less likely than men to orgasm. Despite having the same amount of sex (3.1 times a week), women only average 2.7 climaxes (87%), while men orgasm more than once each time, averaging 3.6 a week (116%).
