Research conducted by design brand I Want Wallpaper took a dive into the world of street art to reveal the most Instagrammed street art murals in 2021 – and Sheffield is near the top.

Many have been using the lockdown as an opportunity to get out and discover some of their city’s street art gems on their daily walks, with more artists taking to the streets to bring some colour into our lives; creating stunning displays in areas that the public could love and appreciate socially distanced.

The Steel City, known for prominent street artists such as Phlegm and Kid Acne, came in fourth place in the study with 33,065 street art hashtags on social media site Instagram – less than 10,000 behind third-placed Manchester, which had 42,746 hashtags.

London came top of the list with a massive 968,009 hashtags, with Banksy’s Bristol unsurprisingly taking up second place with over 100,000.

The most Instagrammed street art in Sheffield was Phlegm’s Headford Street Mural in the City Centre, with Phlegm also topping the list for most Instagrammed street artist in Sheffield.

The internationally-renowned Sheffield artist has works across the city, including Division Street and Thomas Street, and is clearly an attractive target for those urban exploring.
