Paul the Octopus, Shaheen the camel and Achilles the cat have all entertained football fans with mixed results in the past.
Now it’s the turn of Mystic Theo, a pet tortoise belonging to Sheffield nurse Joan Pons Laplana, to try his luck.
Joan has been sharing videos of Theo selecting winners from each match by trotting towards the flags of the nations competing, and he made a promising start by correctly picking Italy to overcome Turkey in the tournament opener.
The good news for England fans is that Theo’s backing the Three Lions to open their campaign with victory against Croatia at Wembley tomorrow afternoon.
It’s early days so punters may want to wait before shelling out too heavily based on Theo’s predictions.
They’d be better off spending the cash supporting the Cavell Nurses’ Trust, which helps nurses going through hardship.
Joan is sharing the videos of Theo’s picks as a bit of fun to help drum up support for the charity.
He’s asking people to text CHEERSNURSE to 70085 or sponsor him to run the marathon later this year dressed as a pint of beer.
“The only thing you need to do is donate the price of a pint of beer to my fundraising page and raise a glass for all health professionals who are working tirelessly trying to fight the coronavirus during this pandemic,” he said.
