Mum-of-six, Sarah Allcock, 46, from Stannington, said her husband, Brian, 53 was taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital on February 16 and was placed on a ventilator.

His condition then deteriorated as he slipped into a coma and remained on the ventilator last Saturday.

Sarah, who now lives in Chesterfield, said Brian, herself and three of their elder children all tested positive for the virus around the same time, but the situation looks rather grim for her husband and they were called in to say their goodbyes.

"We refused to give up on him. Brian had another bad day yesterday and was on 100% oxygen but still the consultants and nurses at the Royal fought hard and did everything they could and he managed to improve.

"It's all very difficult at the moment..but I can't thank enough the outpouring support and prayers we have been getting for Brian.

"He is still critical but I believe we will bring him home," she said.

She said the family are now in need of financial help as they are planning to complete some of the renovation work at their house, which has been ongoing for the past six years, before Brian could return home.

Sarah said Brian has been working on renovating their home by making an extension to their kitchen, building stairs to the bedroom and redoing the bathroom and flooring, which remain half furnished.

"But our priority is to get the bedroom done for Brian so he can have a safe, clean environment for him to recover in," she said.

She added that none of them suffers from any underlying health issues and warns others of the dangers of the virus.

According to the GoFundme page that was set up by her friend, Jade Clapham, Brian was in the process of setting up his own business before he fell ill with Sarah having to take care of all the children without any income.

Sarah and Brian have six children - all girls. They are Megan (22), Molly (16), Jessica (15), Lucy (12), Charlotte, seven and Frances, five.
