For Sheffield gym members, Hannah Cowan and Catherine Shipley, the answer is 2,975 miles.

After seeing the aftermath of the catastrophic explosion in Beirut last month, the pair – along with Prime Mover Fitness gym owner, Danny Pilkington – decided to join forces to cover the distance from the front door of the gym, on Jessop Street in Sheffield, to the site of the explosion in Beirut.

Throughout the first two weeks of September, they will rally other members of the gym to join them in their ‘Love for Lebanon’ challenge, logging every mile they walk, run and swim, with the target of virtually reaching the border of Bulgaria and Turkey by midnight on September 18 – a distance of approximately 1,900 miles.

On September 19, the gym will be filled with as many pieces of equipment as possible, given Covid-19 restrictions, and members and non-members be invited to undertake a 12-hour challenge to complete the remainder of the distance.

Gym owner Danny said: “The staff and members at Prime Mover Fitness are a caring and supportive group and I’m very proud of the way they have rallied around to raise money for this great cause.

"We want people to spread the word. This is about ensuring people are aware of the awful situation the people of Beirut have found themselves in, as well as raising money to help them out.”
