A celebrity priest who grew up in Sheffield and shot to fame on Gogglebox has shared an example of the vile online abuse to which she is subjected.

The Rev Kate Bottley worked as an RE teacher at Ecclesfield School and Yewlands School before finding fame on the Channel 4 show, alongside her husband Graham and dog Buster, and is now a regular presenter on Radio 2.

Posting on Twitter, she shared a disgusting message she had received calling her the ‘most irritating person’ and telling her to ‘shut your fat mouth you pathetic ****’.

She said it was sadly typical of the horrific abuse directed at celebrities, and she urged anyone who is struggling to seek help.

“Everybody who is in the public eye gets this sort of stuff,” she wrote.

“It says more about the person sending it than it ever could about the person it’s being said to.

“If you’re not OK please get some help, you are beautiful and loved @samaritans.”
