Tracey Birch, who is helping coordinate the search for him, said: “He’s the softest dog you can come across.

“He’s eight years old, he’s muted and he’s microchipped. I can’t imagine him being stolen.”

Axel was wearing a blue collar when he went missing. Part of the top of his left ear is also missing, which is visible when his ears are pricked up.

Tracey, from Beighton, added: “Dawn [Axel’s owner] walks miles and miles with that dog every day, it’s her life and soul. She’s had him since he was a puppy.

“She’s shattered but she won’t give up looking, none of us will.”

As well as a search party, Tracey says a drone has also been used to look for the dog – and will be out again on Wednesday if he is not found before then.

“We have had a few sightings. Everywhere he’s been spotted circles around Rother Valley,” she said.

“It’s a friend of ours who has put the reward out to see if we can attract anyone who wouldn’t otherwise come forward. Everyone helping has been fantastic, they have all done it for free.”

Anyone who finds Axel or with any information is asked to phone or text 07432 292342.
