Sheffield placed a disappointing 41st in a list of the 50 sexiest regional voices - behind the Leeds, Scouse and Mancunian accent.

Essex was crowned the most attractive accent while Birmingham's distinctive Brummie tones were voted as the most unattractive.

The twangs of Salford, Cheshire, Cornish, Bristol, Wolverhampton, West Country, Hull and Gloucestershire were also voted less attractive than Sheffield.

Leeds was voted the 17th most attractive accent with Bradford 27th and Yorkshire generally ninth.

Media company Big 7 Travel polled 1.5 million people.
