Second arrest made in Sheffield murder inquiry as 15-year-old boy is taken into custody

A second person has been arrested in connection with the death of a man on a Sheffield estate.

A 15-year-old boy from Sheffield was arrested this morning (July 31) on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody.

It comes after a 42-year-old man – whose name has not been formally released but who has been named locally as Anthony – was killed in an attack on the Manor estate just before midnight on Thursday into Friday.

Police were called at 11.55pm to reports that a man had been attacked on Windy House Lane, Sheffield.

He was found critically injured and despite the efforts of paramedics to save him he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 49-year-old man was arrested yesterday (July 30) on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody.

The police probe into the killing is ongoing today, with Detective Chief Inspector Simon Palmer stating: “We are doing all we can to locate those responsible.”

He described the murder as ‘shocking’ and said a ‘dedicated team’ is ‘working tirelessly on the investigation’.

Police patrols have been stepped up in the wake of the fatal attack.

Friends of the murder victim have posted tributes on Facebook, with one describing Anthony as a ‘loved’ son, brother, dad, grandad and grandson.
