Led by instructor Doctor Ravi Karwa, the Doncaster chapter of the Sri Sri School of Yoga put together a special celebration for International Yoga Day.

During the day, they raised £1,400 in donations. The money has been shared equally between the Doncaster Deaf Trust, who hosted the event and the Special Care Baby Unit, at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Bobbie Roberts, Chair of Trustees at Doncaster Deaf Trust said he was pleased with the amount of money that had been raised.

He said: “We are extremely grateful to the Sri Sri School of Yoga for their kind donation.

“It is wonderful to know that the money has been split between two local charities.”

The celebration day consisted of a three-hour long session which included an assortment of yoga and meditation along with plenty of food and fun.

Doctor Karwa said yoga has many benefits and he was happy that money had been raised for two good causes.

He said: “We are pleased to be able to donate this money and know that it will be put to good use by both organisations.

‘’Doing some good whilst also practicing your hobby is an incredibly fulfilling experience. All of us at the Sri Sri School are passionate about what we do and how it makes us feel, but having the knowledge that we’re also making a difference through it is even better.”

He added: “Yoga is the need of the hour. It has a beneficial impact on both our physical and mental health. There is so much discussion around mental health these days, and I feel that yoga and breath practices such as the Sudarshan Kriya (SK Yoga) and meditation have so much to offer in this field.”

Dr Karwa and his wife Shanta Karwa established their yoga group back in 2014. Together they have been working to spread this knowledge and wisdom to people from all walks of life.

Shanta works behind the scenes organising and coordinating big events, such as the one for International Yoga Day.

She also works to spread the knowledge about techniques such as the SKY Yoga, which is a beautiful breathing technique like no other.

In addition, the pair hold weekly yoga classes in Auckley.

Dr Karwa looked ahead to next year’s celebration and welcomed people to join them.
