5. Samuel Slater.
Samuel Slater, who was born in Belper in 1768, went on to become the Father of the USA’s Industrial Revolution. Slater was trained by Jedediah Strutt to use machines in the practice of cotton spinning and took his knowledge with him over to the United States. 6. John Hurt calls Derbyshire home.

7. The Crooked Spire.
The Crooked Spire is a world famous site for keen visitors to the UK. The Crooked Spire of St Mary and All Saints Church, built in the 13th century and allegedly twisted because of the lack of skilled craftsmen due to the plague, is also believed to have been caused by lead heated by the sun that was laid on to the wooden shingles on the south side, expanding faster than on the north, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England. 8. Derby Arboretum.
