Pro-choice rally planned in Sheffield as US-backed anti-abortion group set to give talk
They have said they want to make abortion ‘become unthinkable’
Protestors are planning to descend upon an anti-abortion “training day” with hopes of battling “out-dated debates.”
March for Life UK have organised the Rethink Abortion Day at the Mother of God Parish Church on Abbeydale Road for Saturday (June 6).
Organisers have described the event online as an “interactive training day,” with educational sessions about dealing with real life scenarios and improving communication for “pro-life beliefs.”

In an advertisement for the event, they wrote: “If we want abortion to become unthinkable, then paradoxically what we need to do is to get people thinking about it. So often people have an opinion on abortion and yet it's something they haven't given much thought to or if they have thought about it, they haven't had the facts they need to make an informed decision.
“March for Life UK have created an engaging, informative interactive day to equip you to speak about abortion.”
The event is being organised by a British offshoot of the US protest group March For Life, who have been petitioning to overturn legal protections for abortions and gained support from Vice President JD Vance.
Sheffield Protecting the Right to Choose are planning to protest the local event, saying only they “demand that they leave our bodies alone.”
“Despite the far-right's tokenistic demand to 'protect women and girls', in reality, control over women's bodies (among other bodies) has always been a core tenet of fascism. The fight for bodily autonomy and control over our own reproductive systems is the fight against fascism.
“With out-dated debates around abortion rising into the mainstream; with Farage threatening to strip back the rights of women to access abortion should Reform come into power; with this already happening in the US - the ability to choose for ourselves what we do with our bodies is firmly under threat.”
The counter-protest has also received support from Sheffield Communities Against Racism and Fascism.
