With parking already a problem for those living near Pitsmoor Road, objectors to the planning proposals say that the development will “cause chaos and so much upheaval” in the area.

The plan to replace the old post office building with a modern three-storey block of nine flats has led to calls for more people to ledge objections in an effort to prevent the “eyesore” from being built.

The proposal states that the developer intends to demolish the building at 509 Pitsmoor Road, which includes the former post office and a flat above, and build a three-storey building which will house six two-bedroom flats and three one-bedroom flats.

The new building will be red brick, with a flat fibreglass and aluminium roof and aluminium doors and window frames.

And while the development could potentially house more than 20 people, no parking will be provided and residents would need to park on neighbouring streets.

Commenting on Sheffield City Council’s planning website, a resident of nearby Shirecliffe Close wrote: “I think this will be bad for parking issues on nearby streets.

“It does not fit in with the design and features of neighbouring buildings. It will cause disruption whilst building to a busy road and noise. It looks like it would be an eye sore.”

Another resident added: “This development is not in keeping with the surrounding area - which is one of the most historical and attractive parts of the neighbourhood.

“I am also concerned that this development would increase traffic in an already congested street. Furthermore, we lose the potential reopening of a valued community resource - our local post office.”

Karen Malone posted on Facebook group Pitsmoor in Sheffield: “We need a post office, the building of flats will cause chaos and so much upheaval to residents, people passing through to get to work and people trying to get to hospitals. There are schools nearby in all directions.”

The deadline to comment on the application is February 25.
