Pay and display machines will soon be in force at Sheffield's Endcliffe Park and opinions are split

The Sheffield City Council has confirmed that a pay and display machine has been installed at a Sheffield park, but the date of its enforcement has yet to be confirmed.

The residents who frequent Endcliffe Park were shocked to discover what appeared to be parking meter still covered in tarpaulin.

The picture of the parking metre was shared on the local community Facebook group, triggering a debate on whether it was necessary.

And the city council said the machine will only operate once a traffic regulation is in place but the time scales for this can vary.

Although many were unhappy with the parking restrictions, some welcomed the move, saying that this could serve as a deterrent to those who abuse the car park as 'park and ride'.

They said it is a common occurrence for some residents, and some who live outside the area to leave their vehicles and take the public transport to get into town.
