Opinion: Who else would work without right protective equipment?

As I enter the third week of Isolation the excellent support I am receiving is appreciated.

Fortunately, I am not sanitised yet to learn of more coronavirus deaths, as they are not just statistics they are real people, suffering in our midst.

Those who do not follow the clear public health warnings put themselves and others at risk by their indiscipline, and add to the risks our NHS staff are taking.

Too many are still not being tested and short of the personal protective equipment they urgently require.

What other employees would work without essential protective clothing ?

That our Prime Minister is now a victim should focus all our minds and I personally do not buy it is like another flu epidemic.

Life will not be the same after this pandemic, with lessons learned at all levels of society.

We will have learnt the advantages/disadvantages of working remotely by use of technology.

It is said you only really value something when you lose it.

So perhaps we will value things more starting looking after our health and those in our care.

It is stark to learn that 70 per cent, it is alleged, of patients being admitted to intensive care with coronavirus are obese.

So hopefully after being restricted by the pandemic, we can in the future exercise more and drink and eat less to get more fitter.

On a personal level, I take inspiration from Terry Waite on keeping standards up.

When blindfolded and handcuffed as a hostage, he still found a way of putting a crease on his trousers, by somehow getting them under the mattress.

If he can do that I can look after myself, stuff a duvet and be less of a burden to NHS and to my personal benefit can get fitter.

We have perhaps grown up with the notion that no matter how we overeat and drink and under exercise, the NHS will be there for us.

Sadly, as we grow older and hopefully wiser we see how stretched the NHS is , no matter what extra resources we throw at it, we have to take greater responsibility for our own health.

There is plenty of help in this city of ours to make literally the first step in that journey.

Think of Terry Waite.
