Our city’s two universities will be welcoming their new students in the coming weeks.
Consider this The Star’s very own fast-paced guide to how you can enjoy the city to the fullest during your stay, with some facts you might not know.
5. There's a shopping centre on the tram route
Speaking of days out on the tram, you can visit Meadowhall Shopping Centre whenever you like by taking the tram from city centre. Pubs, restaurants, shops, gyms, hairdressers, specialist snooker stores... there's a lot to explore. Picture James Hardisty. Photo: James Hardisty
6. We have a bunch of independent cinemas
Sheffield has three quality independent cinemas with a penchant for screening rare or hard-to-find movies - as well as just giving classics another chance at the silver screen. Between the Kurzon, the Showroom and the Light, there's always something on. Photo: Dean Atkins
7. Kelham Island - just go, trust us
Sheffield's best kept secret is Kelham Island, home to some of the city's most high end restaurants and hidden-gem bars. It has more nightlife awards than I can even list here - give it a go and find your new haunt. Photo: Chris Etchells
8. Leadmill
Sheffield is home to one of the UK’s most iconic independent music venues, The Leadmill, and is famous for giving up and coming bands a start. Its pedigree include the likes of Pulp, Oasis, Coldplay, The Killers, Lewis Capaldi, The White Stripes, The Stone Roses... the list goes on. The venue is currently protesting how a new management company is taking over starting next April - but a night out here is not to be missed during your stay. Photo: Leadmill
