Mystery behind planes spotted flying over Sheffield revealed

Residents across Sheffield reported seeing two planes flying low over the city on Wednesday afternoon, with everyone asking the same question.

The aircrafts were seen flying over Sharrow, Abbeydale and Attercliffe as well as other parts of the city.

One woman said: “I was sitting at my window having my daily lockdown chat with my dad and they flew over so low that I felt like I imagined it.”

The planes belonged to Diamond Executive Aviation, based in Retford. A spokesperson said they were working on behalf of Bristol-based October Films, who are making a documentary for Channel 5 about the Dambusters.

A spokesperson said the crew were trying to reach Ladybower Bridge for filming but were forced to turn back because of poor weather and will try again on another date.

Ladybower Reservoir is historically significant as the place Guy Gibsdon and his men trained for the raid on the dams of the Ruhr Valley.
