South Yorkshire Police and her sister issued an urgent appeal for information as concerns for her welfare grew on Friday.

Melanie’s sister Emma said: “I last spoke to her around 3 pm on Thursday, and she sounded happy and in good spirits, but nobody has heard from her since.

“Melanie is not familiar to this area, and I don’t know if she’s been out walking and got lost.

“She hasn’t made contact, and I’m so worried for her. The police were alerted straight away when I was contacted about her bag being found.
