Amy Turner, who hails from Stocksbridge and plays at centre back for the Red Devils, is teaming up with her partner, Reading midfielder Angharad James, to undertake the challenge at their home in Manchester.

The couple will take it in turns to complete 90-minute shifts on their exercise bike as they pedal the equivalent distance from Sheffield to Angharad’s home town in Pembrokeshire, Wales, on Friday, May 1.

They will be raising money for two good causes in Yorkshire – IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Services) and The Hub Food Bank – and two in Wales – the not-for-profit mental health organisation GTBAL (Get The Boys A Lift) and Cardigan Food Bank.

Amy said: “We felt we had the means and the reach through social media to do something positive in these uncertain times.

“We wanted to support a couple of food banks in our home towns, which we know are struggling due to the increased demand, and to support domestic abuse and mental health organisations, which are experiencing more calls during the pandemic.

“We’re not expert cyclists by any means and probably don’t know what we’re letting ourselves in for but we are determined to make a difference and help these organisations, which are very close to our hearts.”

Amy and Angharad have already passed their £2,000 target before taking to the saddle but hope to raise considerably more.
