Louis Tomlinson cancels Milan tour date as Italy goes into coronavirus lockdown

Doncaster singer Louis Tomlinson has axed a world tour date in Italy after the entire country went into coronavirus lockdown.

The sold out concert was due to take place in Milan tomorrow night.

But the Doncaster singer has pulled the plug on the date at the city’s Fabrique venue after the entire Italian population – 60 million people – were ordered to stay at home and into quarantine.

Travel is being restricted across Italy from Tuesday and public gatherings are forbidden.

The latest figures from Italy show 9,172 cases and 463 deaths from the deadly virus which is sweeping the globe.

In a post on Twitter, the star wrote: 'Following the decree from the President of the Council of Ministers, my headline show in Milan will now not go ahead.

“I was really excited to bring the Walls tour to Italy but the health and safety of my fans is more important than anything else.

“Hold on to your tickets. Further information will be available from your ticket seller in the next days.

“Don't worry, I will be back in July and I hope to see you all then! Louis.”

He is due to play Carroponte in Milan, Piazza Grande in Palmanova, and Rock in Roma in July.

Meanwhile, British Airways has cancelled all flights to and from Italy on Tuesday and people are being advised against all but essential travel to Italy with the entire country in lockdown until April 3.
