Laughing gas canisters were left strewn across the roof terrace of Brook House on Summerfield Street, near Ecclesall Road, following the bash on Saturday, June 20.

One man living at the apartment block said he was kept awake by loud music blaring until 2am, followed by more noise as guests departed, and cannabis could be smelt wafting down corridors.

Government rules, imposed to prevent the spread of coronavirus, prohibit gatherings of more than six people from different households.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s an absolute disgrace. Numerous COVID-19 rules must have been broken and you should have seen the mess they left behind.

“I’d gone to bed when I was woken by the music. I went to see where it was coming from and there were lots of people milling around and I could smell cannabis. Looking through the glass doors to the roof terrace, I saw what must have been 50-60 people up there.

“The music came to an abrupt end at around 2am but there was still lots of noise after that.

“The next morning there were laughing gas canisters and cigarette ends all over the roof terrace, with canisters in the stairwell and corridors too. Someone told me it was a birthday party for someone living in the block.”

He added that he had reported it to police and to Grainger plc, which manages the property.

The general manager of Brook Place, confirmed an investigation had been launched into reports of a party.

“This is a clear breach of our guidelines and the current Government guidance with regards to COVID-19,” he said.

“The health, safety and security of our residents Is of paramount importance and actions such as this undermine all of the measures we have implemented at Brook Place to protect our residents and team members.

“The behaviour reported is unacceptable and appropriate action will be taken against the resident involved.”
