An RSPCA spokeswoman told how Pickles, who was rescued on August 7 and is now aged 19 weeks, is doing ‘really well’ despite the trauma but needs a loving home.

“Poor Pickles was in a real state when he came into us. His tail was bent at a 90 degree angle and had been badly broken, it was causing him a lot of pain so vets decided to amputate it,” she said.

“We also discovered three deep wounds which we believe have been caused by chemical burns. Unfortunately, it’s not clear how he ended up in this condition and whether these injuries were accidental or were inflicted on him by someone deliberately.

“Pickles is a very friendly, playful little cat. Unfortunately he didn’t get to socialise much as a youngster while he recovered from his injuries so he doesn’t have the best manners which is why we think he’d be best in an adult-only home.

"He’s very energetic and active and hopes to find a home where he can have lots of fun and cuddles.”

Pickles is at the RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District branch and is available now for rehoming.
