Speaking in 1994, Glynn said: “I was on the critical list and was very ill, if it was not for the hospital, I would not be here today.

“I’m a big rock and roll fan and have tattoos all over my back and arms, so I thought this would be a good way to express my thanks.”

“I am very grateful to Dr Champion and her team at the hospital for everything they have done for me,” Glynn, then 47, added.

“And I would also like to thank my wife Lynne and all my family and friends because without their support I do not know what would have happened.”

Now aged 74, Glynn has again thanked the hospital as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.

He said: “Due to the amazing care I received from Weston Park I was lucky enough to beat cancer and enjoy a life worth living.

“I was able to return to the career I enjoyed as a heavy plant operator and in retirement, I have lived in Gibraltar, Spain and I have finally settled in the Isle of Man.

“I owe my life to Weston Park, thank you.”
