How one Sheffield teenager is planning to raise happiness across the city

Joseph Newbury, aged 19, is aiming to raise £1,000 in a bid to host the charity show and create a windfall for three city charities.

All proceeds will be split between Sheffield Mind, Samaritans and Sheffield Flourish.

He said: “I have been having a few rough years in both my personal and professional life and have run into many obstacles during this time.

One thing that has always helped me through has been my friends and family, as much as music.

I have many friends who over the past year and a half to two years have also shared their story through dealing with depression and/or anxiety.”

Seeing a close friend going through a particularly hard time recently, Joseph learned to make himself ‘more available to people’.

He said: “Negative people can bring people down, I want to raise the happiness just for a bit.

It would welcome everyone who felt they had a story to tell or wanted to know that there are people out there just like them.

No one is on their own, and help is always around the corner.”

The teenager has taken inspiration for his own event from festivals and other concerts.

Counsellors will be on site for those who may wish to talk to someone and it will promote mental health awareness, as well as showcasing the talent of Sheffielders.

There will also be a short film highlighting the distress and dangers of being involved in abusive relationships.

The concert is planned for February 4 at The Leadmill.
