The group are taught by Maxene Gray, Course Director, BTEC Level 3 Hospitality and Food Service, The Sheffield College, who said: “The Salon Skills competition gives those at the beginning of their career a chance to compete and practice some of the skills that are essential to their trade and that will help them go further in their career. I am really proud of their achievements.”

Len Unwin, Curriculum Team Leader, Catering and Hospitality, The Sheffield College, added: “This is another excellent performance from our front of house students who are developing the food service skills that our industry is crying out for.

It’s even more impressive given the challenges of studying during the pandemic. Well done to our students and the staff who supported them!”

The annual event attracts scores of competitors from the industry as well as colleges and universities and aims to showcase the skills and talent within the sector.

The Salon Skills competition is for students, trainees and apprentices at the beginning of their careers and it took place remotely, on May 26, 2021, at competitor colleges due to coronavirus safety restrictions.

Around 150 students from 12 colleges took part. For more information, visit https://internationalsalonculinaire.co.uk/salon-skills-competition-awards/
