Heartache at sudden death of Sheffield toddler at Christmas

Ezra Goodjohn, from Stannington, was rushed to Sheffield Children’s Hospital on Saturday following a visit to an out-of-hours GP after the little boy started feeling unwell three days after Christmas.

But within hours, beautiful, blond Ezra was pronounced dead, with early indications that he may have developed sepsis.

As his heartbroken mum, Emma Chadburn, dad, Ryan Goodjohn and six-year-old sister, Isla, struggle to come to terms with their loss of the beloved toddler, friends have rallied round to help the family in their time of need.

An online fundraising page has been launched to help with funeral costs and to support the family while Emma and Ryan are off work grieving for their much loved son.

Ryan’s lifelong friend, Ben Evans, who set up the Go Fund Me page, said everyone who knew Ezra is devastated at his sudden death.

He said: “On December 28, we sadly lost Ezra after a very sudden illness.

“Ezra touched the lives of so many with his cheeky personality and playful nature. Ezra was a big part of the Goodjohn family and to say he will be missed is an understatement.“As close friends of the family we have set this page up to help raise money to support the family through this very difficult time.

“We are aware that nothing we can do will help ease their pain, but we feel that by financially supporting them it will help them in the short term so they can continue to be the loving family that they are.”

Ben added: “This has shocked us all because it was so sudden. Ezra enjoyed his Christmas, playing with his toys and sister, laughing on photographs and in videos, and then three days later he was no longer with us. Nobody can come to terms with it.

“Nothing we can do can ease the pain the family is feeling, but we hope that by supporting them financially at this difficult time it will reduce the burden on the family a little bit while they grieve.

“We are absolutely overwhelmed at the generosity people have shown, even strangers who have been touched by the loss of Ezra and we thank everyone who has donated so far.”
