Gifts handed out in city centre as Sheffield's Muslims celebrate Ramadan
Sheffield’s Muslim community headed into Sheffield city centre bearing gifts on Saturday, as they dished out sweets to mark the start of Ramadan.
Volunteers from the community faith organisation An Nasiha spend Saturday afternoon in front of Sheffield Town Hall giving out gifts of dates and chocolates to celebrate their holy month.

Organisers said the gesture was warmly received, with smiles and heartfelt gratitude from those they met, as their volunteers handed out treats while fasting for nearly 12 hours.
They were joined by Mayor of Rotherham, Rukhsana Ismail, and Sheffield Councillors Qais Al-Adhil and Ibby Ullah,
Volunteer Mahmood Hussain said they were outside the Town Hall to launch an annual initiative.
He said: “This is to show people that Ramadan is not just about fasting, it’s about thinking about other people, caring and promoting smiles with the local community, and about community cohesion.
“The young people gathered her today have an opportunity to think, yes, we’re part of Sheffield and we’ve got an opportunity to encourage conversation and smiles.”
It was the fourth time the event has been run in the city centre.
