The Doncaster-based ex of a star of the new series of Love Island says he dumped her to appear on the show, according to reports.

Connor Durman was unveiled as one of the contestants on the latest series of the show, which is due to begin on Sunday, yesterday.

And according to reports in the Daily Mail, he has recently broken-up with his Doncaster girlfriend of three years to star on the programme, which is being filmed in South Africa.

Stevie-Leigh Pich, 22, branded her ex "savage" - alleging he was planning his stint on Love Island long before they split seven weeks ago.

Connor is said to have been planning to buy a house with Stevie befor the break-up.

She also says that she's living in Australia, where Connor has been based for four years, on his visa despite the split.

She blasted the coffee bean salesman, 25, in a scathing post on Instagram before switching her account to private.

Stevie-Leigh wrote: "Also just to let everyone know I was with him 7 weeks ago just before I came back out to Auz (on his visa) and I was in a three year relationship with him he knew all along he was going on Love Island.

"Absolutely savage. I wish Connor all the best.

"But my Instragram is turning off for the whole time Love Island is on."

The cast for the new series, which is being hosted in Cape Town, was recently revealed, with Connor chatting about being the ‘perfect islander’.

The 25-year-old said: ‘I’ve been living in Australia for four years.

“In that time, I’ve grown up, done everything myself, I’ve got so many new and different life experiences.

‘I’ve had two big relationships, one good, one bad. I think I’ve gone through a lot. I’m mature now and I know what I want.’
