Fund set up for son of young Sheffield mum who took her own life

Casey Thornhill, from Beighton, took her own life on Wednesday leaving behind her three-year-old son Noah, a devoted boyfriend, a loving family and dozens of close friends.

Casey had struggled with the mental illness borderline personality disorder since she was a teenager, and had fought for years to get the care and support she desperately needed.

But in the last few months her situation had been improving, with the young mother finally getting the help she had been asking for and looking forward to Christmas.

Rachael Jackson, a neighbour of Casey’s mum, said she had seen the ‘stunning’ young woman grow up and was devastated by her loss.

She said: “Casey was a beautiful girl and a wonderful mum. She had seemed to be in a really good place recently but when the illness takes you it just takes you.

“As well as the money for Noah we want to raise awareness of mental health problems and the struggle people have in getting help.”

A fundraising page Rachael set up on the Go Fund Me site on Thursday night has already reached more than £14,000.

All the money raised will go to Noah and will be held by Casey’s mum to use as he grows up.

Since Rachael set the fundraising page up, dozens of tributes have been left on it from people who knew Casey.

Charlene Hadfield said: “Such a beautiful girl and a fantastic mum to Noah. He’s such a credit to you Casey. You'll be missed so much. RIP Angel.

Sally Frost said: “Fly high Casey. I may have only known you for a few years but what a lovely young lady you are. My heart is with your little boy and your family. Rest in peace.

And Cheryl Wells said: “Love to your little boy and everyone whose life you have blessed. Glad I met you. Never forgotten.”
