Mike Boateng, now a police officer, transformed his trainers into slippers during last night’s episode of the ITV2 show – and some viewers were unable to believe their eyes.

It seems the islander, currently enjoying a blossoming romance with co-star Leanne Amaning, couldn't be bothered to put his shoes on properly after a chat with twin Jess Gale.

They were discussing her recent decision to steal him from Leanne in the recoupling, with Mike, 24, quickly realising how much he liked his original partner.

But as the conversation ended and the islanders went their separate ways, fans were immediately distracted by Mike's footwear.

It was in fact the way in which Mike was wearing his trainers though that left fans in hysterics, with his feet outside the backs of them as if they were sandals or "slippers".

Fans took to Twitter to see if anyone else had noticed.

One fan asked: "Anybody else see the way Mike is wearing his shoes like slippers?"

Another tweeted: "Nooo look how Mike has his shoes on."

A third added: "What is he doing to his shoes?? Mike's Mum is raging right now."

This was echoed by a fourth fan who said: "Mike using his trainers as slippers... Jesus wept."

The ex-Sheffield United academy player trained alongside Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin during his time with the Blades, joining the club in the summer of 2013 in his bid to make it as a professional footballer

Taken on as a third-year scholar, Mike was then loaned out to non-league AFC Emley that October.

The midfielder was too old to play for United’s youth team and with competition for games with the U21s high, he was loaned out for more playing time.

He failed to make the grade as a pro and trained to become a police officer.

Commenting on his footballing days, he said: “I know a few footballer friends from my football days.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin played with me at Sheffield United.”
