Fire safety team to inspect all high-rise tower blocks in South Yorkshire

The team, funded by a government grant, will inspect all residential buildings over 18 metres high or with six or more storeys as part of a programme launched in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire in London which claimed 72 lives.

Fire safety measures will be assessed in each block.

Area Manager Simon Dunker, head of the fire service’s prevention and protection departments, said: “Our aim, between now and the end of next year, is to physically inspect every high rise residential building in South Yorkshire.

“We hope this work will provide reassurance to residents we are continuing to work to effect changes identified by the Grenfell inquiry and that resident safety remains our priority. We will work with building owners and managers to ensure any necessary work is carried out.”
