The city’s combination of gritty industrial heritage, the romantic landscape of the Peak District and atmospheric brutalist architecture like the iconic Park Hill flats have long made it an attractive option for film crews.
But how many of these settings do you recognise from films and TV dramas in which Sheffield has played a starring role over the years?
9. Everybody's Talking About Jamie
This big screen adaptation of the hit musical, which began life at Sheffield's Crucible theatre, has yet to hit screens but is eagerly anticipated. Filming for the movie, starring Richard E Grant, took place near Endcliffe Park and at St Mary's Gate, among other locations, last summer. 10. Back in Time for the Corner Shop
The latest series of BBC Two's popular time travelling reality show, in which families experience life throughout the decades, was filmed at a disused shop on the corner of Derbyshire Lane and Norton Lees Road in Meersbrook Park, Sheffield. Airing on Tuesday nights, it follows the Ardern family as they experience how life in the trade has changed from the Victorian era to the present day Photo: BBC/Wall to Wall Media Ltd/Paul Husband
11. Journeyman
Paddy Considine's moving boxing drama about a middleweight boxing champion who suffers a devastating brain injury while defending his title was filmed largely in Sheffield. Considine trained to look the part at Brendan Ingle’s legendary gym in Wincobank but the gym scenes were shot at De Hood on the Manor (pictured) Photo: Marie Caley
12. Brief Encounters
This six-part ITV series about a group of women who host Ann Summers parties, selling lingerie and sex toys from their homes, was filmed largely in the scenic Sheffield suburb of Crookes, including on Woodfield Road (pictured). Sharrow Vale Road, Sharrow, was among the other locations where filming took place in 2016 for the show, starring Penelope Wilton, Sharon Rooney, Angela Griffin, Sophie Rundle and Chloe Pirrie Photo: Andrew Roe
