Fatal Sheffield house fire not being treated as suspicious, police say

The death of a person in a fatal Sheffield house fire is not being treated as suspicious, police have said.

Emergency services were called to a property on Handsworth Road at around 11.45am this morning, Saturday, November 23.

One person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene but there were no further reported injuries.

An investigation is now underway following the incident.

Handsworth Road was closed for a time while fire crews tackled the blaze.

The road has since reopened but South Yorkshire Police said there is still a police presence at the scene this evening while officers continue their work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

At this stage, the blaze is not being treated as suspicious but police would still like to speak to anyone with information as to what happened.
