Family release photo of Sheffield murder victim Anthony Sumner

A man who died after being stabbed in the Manor area of Sheffield has today (July 31) been named as Alan Anthony Marcus Sumner, known as Anthony.

Police were called on Thursday at 11.55pm to reports that a man had been attacked on Windy House Lane.

Officers attended the scene and discovered the victim had suffered critical injuries.

Despite the best efforts of ambulance staff, Anthony was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination concluded that he died as a result of the stab injuries he received.

His family have now formally identified him and have released this picture. They are being supported by our Family Liaison Officers and have asked that their privacy is respected at this time.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Palmer, leading the inquiry, said: “We are doing everything we can to establish the sequence of events that led to the tragic death of Anthony.

“Officers remain in the area today and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to them, they are there to support you."

A 49-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, both from Sheffield, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody.

DCI Palmer added: “We know there may have been people in the area who witnessed the incident, but have yet to come forward with information. You might think your input is insignificant, but any information you have could be crucial for our investigation.

"I’d also ask that people check their CCTV cameras and dashcams for any footage recorded around the time of the incident that might help us.

“It's hard to fathom the impact this has had on Anthony's family and friends, and our thoughts are with them and the wider community, who are coming to terms with what has happened.

Flowers laid on the estate for Anthony have today paid tribute to “dad”. Another read that he 42-year-old would “always be loved and missed”.

Friends of the murder victim have posted tributes on Facebook, with one describing Anthony as a ‘loved’ son, brother, dad, grandad and grandson.
