“Our team would like to thank all of our friends and customers and whoever put us up for this award.

“This was not only a very special occasion for the Clam and Cork but for Doncaster Market who provide most of our produce.”

The ceremony, the 12th in the history of the awards, and organised by the Yorkshire Evening Post, was held at the Centenary Pavilion at Elland Road, Leeds.

Look North presenter and host Harry Gration said: “The judges say ‘as food memories go, this is up with the best' and the restaurant was classed in similarity to the world famous Mercardo de la Boqueria in Barcelona.

Laura Collins, the editor of the Yorkshire Evening Post, said: "Within this room there are some of the most talented, creative and ambitious people from brewers to bar staff and fine dining chefs."

But, she added, they all had one thing in common and that was "passion and dedication" to the industry.
