Doncaster Rovers fan calls on town celebrities to back naked Keepmoat Stadium run

A Doncaster Rovers fan who has pledged to run naked around the Keepmoat Stadium after a tweet backfired has called on the town’s celebrities to back his fundraising campaign.

Supporter Daniel Pearson has said he will strip off for the jog if supporters rally to raise at least £750 for Doncaster based charity The Eve Merton Dreams Trust.

And he’s called on Doncaster-born celebrities including TV host Jeremy Clarkson and singers Louis Tomlinson and Yungblud to back his efforts.

Last month, he was left regretting his words when a tweet came back to haunt him after Rovers grabbed a last minute equaliser.

Watching the club’s match with Sunderland, as Darren Moore’s side trailed 1-0 deep into injury time, he took to Twitter to vent his frustrations and wrote: “If we get a draw from this, I will run around the Keepmoat naked.

But Daniel, who charts Rovers’ matches though his football vlog, was left regretting his words when striker Fejiri Okenabihrie scrambled in a 93rd minute equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game to secure Doncaster a 1-1 draw.

He has reached out to the Grand Tour and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host as well as the town born former One Direction star on Twitter, as well as Rovers stars James Coppinger, Brad Halliday and Fejiri Okenabirhie, whose goal sparked the nude run.

He said: “Now I need your guys support to get me to at least £750 and I will be true(ish) to my word - I need to cover my dignity at least!

"I have other fund raising ideas which don't involve me being without any clothes so here's to hoping the donations continue to roll in.”

Daniel is urging supporters to pledge money to the Eve Merton Dreams Trust, the Doncaster based charity which has linked up with the Rovers in previous years to stage fundraising charity football matches. to boost the organisation’s coffers.

Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this year’s game between a team of Doncaster Rovers legends and Sheffield Wednesday legends has has to be put on hold.
