A Doncaster man reckons he’s got the biggest banana in Britain – with a whopping 14 incher.

Woodworker Mick Brown was moved to put forward his huge fruit after a national newspaper revealed how a female shopper had found a foot long banana in her groceries.

Mick spotted Sam Palmer’s banana in The Sun – but realised his was even bigger.

He realised his was two inches bigger and told the newspaper: “I saw hers was only a foot long so I went and got my tape measure and there it was, 14 inches.

“It’s Britain’s biggest banana.

Mick said: “All the lads at work keep calling me Bananaman and reciting the opening lines to the old kids’ cartoon.”

The 1980s cartoon begins: "This is 29 Acacia Road and this is Eric, a schoolboy who leads an amazing double life.

"For when Eric eats a banana an amazing transformation occurs. Eric is Bananaman."
