The charity, darts (Doncaster Community Arts), has been given a number of new donations from Golder Associates, Rotary Club of Doncaster St. Leger and One Stop Shop Carriers for Causes.

The funds will support a variety of creative programmes including All Aboard, darts’ programme for disabled children and their families.

The programme promotes independence in the children, and offers exciting creative activities as well as providing opportunities for children and young people to express themselves.

All Aboard supports over 120 disabled children and young people each year to engage in a wide range of art forms including sculpture, DJing, drama, drumming, music technology and visual arts.

Sophy Sylvester, Head of Fundraising at darts, thanked the organisations for all the money they had given.

She said: “We really couldn’t develop and deliver the work that we do without the support of these fantastic funders.

“They enable us to inspire, develop, captivate, empower and ultimately make a huge difference to people’s lives.

“We’re very grateful to all three organisations for their support and look forward to building relationships with them in the future.”

Engaging in regular, positive creative activity can have a positive impact on people’s health and wellbeing, according to darts, and the charity has many stories detailing how attending art sessions has really turned people’s lives around.

One of the sessions they offer is called Creative Directions, which is an art group for pepople experiencing mental health difficulties. The group runs every Wednesday, from 10am to 3.30pm, at the charity’s base at The Point, South Parade.

One Creative Directions participant said: “I’ve tried cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling, anti-depressants and nothing has worked until now. This is the only thing that works for me.”
