Stacey Eagle, aged 27, has had Mischa for two years after she was asked to look after the Coton de Tulear by a friend who was dying of cancer.

However, she has recently been told by housing association Places for People that she can’t keep Mischa in the Sheffield city centre flat she has lived in for the last four years.

But Stacey says the pair have become ‘inseparable’ in the two years they have been together, and she is now appealing for her landlord to make an exception or find them somewhere else.

She said: “When my friend gave her to me I promised to look after her always but I’m running out of time and options. I am at risk of becoming homeless.

“I never wanted a dog but when I got Mischa something clicked and now I can’t be without her. She is everything to me.

“We haven’t been without each other for two years and whenever I’m not there she starts crying and gets really bad separation anxiety.”

Stacey, who suffers with mental health problems and anxiety, also has ‘really bad’ sciatica which has left her largely housebound at her Devonshire Green flat for much of the last year.

Her landlord Places for People say they can't find her anywhere else to live which does accept pets and she has been unable to find a place through an estate agent as she has no guarantor.

"I've tried every housing association and Sheffield City Council but they said I'd be making myself homeless so they can't help,” said Stacey.

"I've tried calling Citizens’ Advice to try make her a therapy dog but its not possible. I've always been a model tenant in any property I've ever lived in and I don't want to lose my best friend."
