Is coronavirus in Rotherham? Confusion as full list of places in England with confirmed cases revealed

On the morning of Friday, March 6, Monkwood Primary School sent out a letter announcing a parent of a pupil at the school had contracted COVID-19.

Rotherham Borough Council later released a statement confirming the news, reassuring residents it has ‘robust’ measures in place to stop coronavirus spreading in the town.

But according to Public Health England’s updated their list of cases of COVID-19 in the UK, Rotherham still stands at ‘zero’.

When approached for comment on this, Public Health England say they ‘do not provide a running commentary’ on cases and that ‘when any cases are confirmed in the UK, it will be announced by the Chief Medical Officer of the affected country.’

According to the list there are also no cases in Sheffield, despite confirmation that two patients are currently being treated for coronoavirus at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

This is understood to be down to the fact that Public Health England compile cases based on where the patient is from and not where they are being treated.
