City Hearts, which has its headquarters in Sheffield, are asking people to give the gift of warmth this Christmas, by donating hats, scarves and gloves to the men and women they help in their safehouse accommodation.

Lydia Beck, Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator at City Hearts, said “For the majority of clients in our safehouses, this is their first Christmas free from exploitation.

We do everything we can to ensure it is special and full of love, and this year we want to make it extra cosy.”

City Hearts supports survivors of modern slavery across the UK, providing safehouse accommodation and long-term support.

The charity currently supports around 700 men, women and children. For many of their clients, this will be the first Christmas they have felt safe and loved in a long time.

They have suffered exploitation and though they have been rescued, many are left with physical and psychological scars, and often spend their Christmas away loved ones which can leave them feeling isolated.

Many victims are also rescued with just the clothes they stand in, and once brought to the charity’s safehouses, they are in need of clothing and other items. At this time of year, as the temperatures fall they are in need of hats, scarves and gloves to keep warm.

Lydia added: “We’re asking for items that will bring comfort and warmth to our clients and help us to create new memories with them, whilst being practical throughout the winter.”

In the past five years, City Hearts have supported over 3000 people through their safe houses, long-term support and integration programmes.

City Hearts’ South Yorkshire team are asking for donations of new hats, scarves and gloves, which can be posted to, or dropped at the following address: City Hearts Christmas Appeal, The Megacentre, Bernard Road, Sheffield, S2 5BQ.
