Brownie Dorothy is a Sheffield fundraising champion aged seven!

At just seven years old, Dorothy Mellon is already leading the way as a keen St Luke’s fundraiser.

Dorothy - who lives in Bents Green with dad Andrew, mum Vicky and little brother Lenny – raised almost £700 for St Luke’s as she qualified for her Brownies’ charity badge.

She chose St Luke’s because Andrew’s uncle, Mick Woodcock, was a patient at the time.

And having done all her own research into our work, she decided to hold her own sponsored 5k walk, setting off from home and passing St Luke’s on the way to Ecclesall Woods and back.

And as word of the venture spread, she ended up with a party of around a dozen joining her, including Mick’s wife Sonia and daughter Alicia – raising a total of £680.

“We are so proud of what Dorothy achieved because it really was all her own idea and she even did her own poster so people would know about it and could join in,” said Andrew.

“I don’t think any of us thought she would raise so much but we hope it will make a difference to St Luke’s because we know how much they did for my uncle.”

Our Fundraising Assistant Ellie Tomlin added: “Dorothy is a shining example to everybody who is thinking of supporting us.

“To have raised so much at such a young age is a fantastic achievement and we thank Dorothy and her family and friends for all their enthusiasm.”
