Brigantes Orchestra lifts the spirits with season finale

The 2023/24 season for Sheffield’s Brigantes Orchestra reaches its climax on June 15 with a programme that celebrates the arrival of summer.

The concert at Sheffield Cathedral, under conductor Quentin Clare, will feature three concert hall classics to lift the spirits - Copland’s Appalachian Spring, Mozart’s celebrated Clarinet Concerto in A and Dvořák’s Symphony No 8 in G.

And the special guest for the evening will be acclaimed clarinetist Oliver Janes, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and currently section leader clarinet of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

“Our season finale is both lyrical and pastoral, with ballet music by Copland, the swansong concerto of a master and a Czech symphony full of sunshine,” said Quentin.

“The whole of the current season has been devoted to music that dances and this great final evening will capture the theme perfectly.”

The Brigantes Orchestra, sponsored by Sheffield company Neuronatal, is the city’s own professional orchestra and has been performing to critical acclaim at venues across the region since it was founded by Quentin in 2019.
