Muhafiz - a community watch organisation set up to protect mosques after they were targeted by the far-right group Britain First - delivered the special cupcakes to her door as part of a coronavirus response team they developed.

The group said: “We realised it was the 92nd birthday of one of our users who is currently shielding due to Covid-19.

“So we decided to get her a little surprise for her birthday.

“She was extremely emotional when our volunteer dropped of the surprise birthday cupcakes, but we were just glad we could put a smile on her face for her birthday.”

The project is jointly run by the British Muslim Youth and Rotherham Muslim Community Forum.

Volunteers from the group have helped more than a hundred families by delivering food, medicine and other necessities while people self isolate to prevent spread of the virus.

Shakoor Adalat, Rotherham Muslim Community Forum chairman, said: “Our wonderful volunteers who hail from all professions have dedicated their time and resources.

“Some of the warm responses we have received have been great solace for the tireless efforts of our volunteers. Their faith drives them to step up in this time of need. We all have a role to play.”
