Appeal to fund funeral of murdered Doncaster tot Keigan O'Brien approaches £2,000
An appeal to help fund the funeral of murdered Doncaster tot Keigan O’Brien is approaching £2,000.
A Crowdfunding appeal to raise £5,000 was set up in the wake of the two-year-old’s death last week to give him ‘the send off he deserves’.
Keigan, two, died in hospital last Thursday from serious head injuries after paramedics and police were called to his home in Adwick.
Mum Sarah O’Brien, 32, and partner Martin Currie, 36, have both been charged with murder and are set to stand trial in October.
Donations have flooded in for the appeal – and the campaign currently stands at £1,700 – short of its £5,000 target.
Campaign organiser Stuart Denman, who has set up the page, said: “Please help us raise money to give Keigan the send off he deserves.
“He had just turned two and had his life cut short in very sad circumstances. He will have been still learning to talk and play.
“The life he should have had, full of happiness, smiles and laughter has gone, just like that.
“We all know that funerals are free but are only the basic package which is great but he deserves the best.
“The one’s who are suffering the most are Keigan’s sisters - blink of an eye and their world has fallen to bits.
“God bless those two little girls. They will never see that little boy they called their brother ever again and that is heart breaking.”
“If enough money is raised, after paying for Keigan’s funeral extras, the rest will go to the girls to enable them to smile again if only for a second. We must all try and help them through this horrid time, wether we knew them or not.”
Keigan was taken to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest last Wednesday and died the following day.
A post mortem examination revealed he died of head injuries.
Currie and O’Brien made their first appearance in court at Doncaster on Saturday before appearing again at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday where the case was adjourned with a provisional trial date of October 5.
